Posted Monday, October 03, 2005 by Mike ODonnell
With over 200 Alumni in attendance under tent, the Crusaders took the field on a beautiful Fall Sat afternoon vs long time foe Cardinal Hayes. When the dust settled the Crusaders came away with a hard fought 15-14 victory to improve their record in CHSFL to 2-1. Many Alumni were enjoying the day & festivities under the Tent. Stepinac retired Chuck Ogbogu's #7 at halftime. Chuck who holds the Stepinac & the CHSFL record for most yards in a single season with 2225 yards & 29 td's. He also ranks in the top 15 in NY State history. Chuck's Family & friends met at midfield with coach O'D to accept a framed #7 jeresy Chuck was so proud to wear. plaque on scorebard will forever remeber Chusck' accomplishments at Stepinac. Chuck passed away a short time ago. Eric ogbogu was unable to be in town beacuase of prior commitment with Cowboys. He did call & send his best wishes. Eric also sent an Under Armour care package to the football program. We thank the Ogbogu's for not forgetting their roots at Stepinac HS.

The Crusaders scored 1st on a Venice 21 yard TD run. The crusaders pulled off some old trickery with the swinging gate for a two point conversion to Billy Coles from Steve Mays.
Hayes tied scorein 4 th Quarter on a long Mike Allen run & a two point conversion.
Stepinac scored again on a Venice 1 yard run & riddle extra point put them up for good.
Hayes scored again on a Allen run but was stopped short on two point conversion. Crusaders & Cardianls exchanged Long possesions to no avail. The Hayes QB did get losse on a long run that wuld have put them ahead but hustle of super soph Kevin Royal saved the day for Stepinac. The biggest paly of game was Chris Giardini 's hit on a Late carry by Allen. G met Allen in hole & pancaked him. The hit changed the tone of drive & Stepinac's Def sent Hayes packing with a drive ended by downs.

Great job by Defense bending but not breaking. Bobby McDonough led Crusaders with 11 tackles. Paul Mohan coming back from injury has energized the Step Defense with 8 tackles.
