ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Coming off a convincing 61-0 win over Pace last time out, the Southern Connecticut State University football team will look for its fourth straight win on Saturday when the Owls travel to Assumption in a 1 p.m. start. OWLS FARE WELL IN NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Owls were well-represented in last week's NCAA statistical rankings. As a team, the Owls ranked No. 13 nationally in rushing defense (67.7 yards per game) and 25th in scoring offense (35.67 points/game). Both of those figures will improve after the defense merited just 60 yards on the ground and the offense put up 61 points against Pace. Rashaad Slowley
led all of Division II in scoring with an average of 18 points per game. Slowley has now totaled 12 touchdowns for the Owls this season. He also ranked No. 13 in rushing yards per game (123.0) and tallied 113 yards against Pace. Andre Privott
was tied for 16th with an average of 7.33 receptions per contest and hauled in eight catches against Pace. Junior Steven Teague
was tied for 19th in interceptions per game with .67 and also picked off a pass against Pace.
SLOWLEY STANDS ALONE
Senior running back Rashaad Slowley
etched his name in the SCSU record book with a school single-game record six touchdowns in the win at St. Anselm. He scored on runs of 11, 7, 4, 12, 5 and 3 yards. Five different individuals - Larry Kane, Rashaan Dumas (twice), Darrin Davis, Brandon Toles and Jarom Freeman - had all previously scored five times in a game. Slowley finished with 205 yards on a career-high 35 carries.
WEEKLY HONORS FOR SLOWLEY
As a result of his effort against St. Anselm, Slowley was named the Northeast-10 Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
THE LAST GAME AGAINST ASSUMPTION
finished with 202 yards on 16 carries to pace the offense in a 23-17 win for the Owls over Assumption on Oct. 1, 2010 at Jess Dow Field. Michael Escobar
had 11 tackles to lead the defense in that department. Sam-uel Johnson
added eight stops and a sack.
SLOWLEY ECLIPSES 2,000 YARD MARK
Thanks to his effort against West Liberty, senior tailback Rashaad Slowley
went over the 2,000 yard mark for his career. He now has 2,358 yards heading into this weekend.
SLOWLEY SETS TWO NEW HIGHS IN OPENER
Senior tailback Rashaad Slowley
set a new career-high with 27 carries in the season opener. His old best was 22 carries against New Haven last year. Slowley also matched a career-high with 34 receiving yards in the game.
SLOW (LEY) AND STEADY WINS THE RACE
Tailback Rashaad Slowley
has led the Owls in rushing in each of the past two seasons. An All-Conference pick in 2009, Slowley finished with 871 yards in 2010. He entered the 2011 season with 1,876 career rushing yards.
