In the War room on NFL Draft Day - Ray "Whitey "Walsh
Posted Sunday, April 25, 2010 by In the Draft Room
A graduate from Stepinac in 1959 , I am sure Ray" Whitey " Walsh never expected to be working for the NY Giants in the war
room on 2010 NFL Draft Day. As a Youngster Ray worked the Giants camps each summer. His father, Raymond Sr, was the President of the NY Giants. Living in White Plains, Whitey then attended & graduated from Archbishop Stepinac HS in 1959. Going on to Fordham University where he graduated in 1963. After graduation Whitey did a tour in the US Army & then went to work in airline business with American Airlines. In 1973 Whitey took a job with NY Giants. He worked as an Admin Asst before moving into the Scouting & Player Personnel department. Whitey still stays in touch with his Stepinac buddies in White Plains, despite his very busy schedule with the Giants. Ray works very hard running around the United States to find young talent to help make the decisions easier in the Draft room.
Ray has also had a knack of finding the small school players on the board, that blossom into stars in the NFL [Brandon Jacobs- Southern Illinois & Ahmad Bradshaw- Marshall].
At the 2000 draft, Whitey was arguing with everyone in
draft room, including Bill Parcells, that the Giants should draft Tom Brady. We all know who won that fight! But Tom Brady has ended up being a pretty good sixth round pick for the New England Patriots.
The Walsh family has been a fixture at Stepinac for many years Ray [ Whitey], Chris , Patrick [ Bingo] [ Pat also worked for the NY Giants in press box on game day] & [Chris's sons] Kyle & Chris Jr have all graduated for Archbishop Stepinac.
Kyle had a great basketball career at Stepinac & went on to a great career at Fairfield University. We Thank the Walsh family for all there continued support of our great school.
