WHITE PLAINS, N. Y. -- Archbishop Stepinac scored three touchdowns in the final 16 minutes yesterday to stun Monsignor Farrell 27-20.

Farrell (0-6 CHSAA, 1-7) held a 20-6 lead at the break, but struggled on offense and defense after halftime.

QB Joseph Collins (15 of 21, 223 yards) and running backMaurice Easterling (21 carries, 132 yards and two fourth-quarter TDs) sparked Stepinac, which victimized Farrell with the big play all day.

Marco Boshnack scored on Farrell's third play from scrimmage on a 21-yard scamper, but Collins found Josh Powell for a 56-yard strike to even the score, 6-6.

The Lions came back with a Samuel Stepney 1-yard plunge at the end of the first quarter and a Jonathan Derbyshire 1-yard bootleg with 2:14 left in the half. Derbyshire hit Anthony Evangelista for the conversion to give Farrell the comfortable 20-6 halftime advantage.

But as good as the Lion defense was in the second quarter, forcing consecutive three-and-outs before the halftime buzzer, they couldn't stop the Crusaders (3-3 CHSAA, 4-4 overall) after the break.

Farrell turned it over on downs to start the half and Stepinac went mostly to the air on seven plays for 31 yards before Collins hit Brian Boulhousa for a 45-yard TD pass. Conor Power's kick made it 20-13.

And, it seemed, even when the Lions caught a break, it didn't matter.

With just over eight minutes to play, Easterling scored on a 32-yard dash to cut the game to 20-19 and the Powers kick hit the crossbar to keep the Lions up by a point.

But, after another three and out, two rushes for no gain and an incomplete pass, Farrell had to punt.

Stepinac took over at their 29 with 7:01 left and Easterling scored from the 1 with 3:51 left.

Boshnack picked up a first down on the first play of Farrell's final drive, but a 6-yard loss and holding penalty eliminated any chance of a winning drive.
