On Saturday the Crusaders took the field against rivals Iona Prep. The Crusaders knew coming into this came that they were the underdog. That did not stop them from showing up and playing Stepinac Football.
Right from the opening kickoff they gave the Gaels a fight. The defense step up and only gave up one offensive touchdown. They made up from the performance the previous week against Cardinal Hayes. They knew that this week was the first week in AAA and they had to make a statement. They showed Iona and the league that they are here to stay.
The offensive also had to prove themselves from a poor showing against Hayes the week before, and they did. Offensive came out hitting. The were able to move the ball on the ground and through the air. It was a battle. The offensive was moving until a turnover which led to a touchdown gave the gaels a 13 - 0 lead.
The crusaders moved on and cam back a scored themselves before the half. In the second half it was all crusaders. Defense was intense and allowed no ground or passing game from iona. The defense was lead by a strong secondary of Nick Euvino, Jeff Clack and Anthony Councitori. Offense step up, but gave up another turnover that led to a touchdown, but cam back down the field and pushed their way into the endzone with a minute left.
The crusaders showed their heart up and down the field throughout the game. They showed that they are a team and will never give up. They showed us Stepinac Football.
Next week they will travel to St. Joes by the Sea. Game is at 10am. Directions will be sent out later in the week!!
Thanks for the Support
