WHITE PLAINS, N. Y. -- Archbishop Stepinac racked up 453 yards of total offense, 337 on the ground -- 221 from tailback Rashaad Slowley -- in a 52-13 dismantling of St. Peter's in the first round of the CHSFL AA playoffs yesterday.

"You have to give them credit," said St. Peter's coach Mike Cosentino. "They did a nice job against our defense. They did a great job blocking us. Anytime somebody gets 200 yards rushing, obviously your line and your fullback did a good job."

The game was a far cry from the meeting between the teams earlier this season an 8-6 Stepinac win.

"Slowley didn't play in that game. He adds a lot of energy to that offense," said Cosentino. "He's a very good runner. If you give him the blocks, he's going to hurt you."

The Eagles had no answer for the 6-foot-1, 190-pound senior, but were also hurt by costly turnovers.

Trailing 25-13 at halftime, the Eagles came out and forced a three-and-out. After punting it back to Stepinac, St. Peter's Will Figueroa (three catches, 127 yards, TD) intercepted a pass and returned it to midfield. But, two plays later Stepinac's Blake Rzemieniewski picked off a pass to regain possession. On the next play, Slowley went 26 yards for the third of his four TDs.

Things went from bad to worse for the Eagles when they fumbled the kickoff and, five plays and 34 yards later Slowley's fourth TD made it 39-13.

"If you play football long enough, if you coach long enough, you're going to be on the flip side of a game like this," Cosentino said. "It's going to happen once in awhile. Now, we just have to know we played bad and don't let it reoccur next week. I don't see why we can't rebound from this."
