Posted Monday, October 23, 2006 by The Pit Reporter

The Varsity football team is on a roll, with it's third straight win over Xavier of Manhattan 40- 23. Stepinac opened a 33 -0 lead before Step's Defense allowed Xavier's first score. Some great performances stood out on Saturday. Our young guys are really starting to play well. freshman Maurice Easterling had 3 Td's & an interception. He also led udsin tackles on Sat afternoon. Soph QB Joe Collins had some afternoon. He was 8 for 9 for over 200 yds 4 TD passes. Rashaad Slowley turned in another strong effort with 171 yds on 22 carries & 1 TD.
The Offensive line is really starting to get new Offense. Early in year with many injuries this group was having trouble getting the blocking schemes down. Now after about 5 weeks of playing together they are starting to move people around. Led by Seniors Rayn Hoffer, Tim Kehayas , Matt Joseph, Jon Riddle. Newcomers to line Brian Hill [ Junior & Marc lacerra have been doing a good job. Jon Riddle had a great grab over middle, he looked like Mark Bavaro carrying people down field.

Defensively the Crusaders were getting to ball making some jarring tackles. Sophomore Blake Rzemienieski had a big sack on Xavier QB , it was a shot heard up & down Mamaroneck Ave. Linebackers Mateo & Caba also had great games.

The Crusaders will travel to Cardinal Hayes @ SUNY Maritime Friday night at 7PM. The game is very important to our playoff hopes. Come out & support your Crusaders!
